Why are Atheists on Religion and Spirituality if they aren't religious?

January 6th, 2009 - ccbilllog.com - edit
  • i saw this question as an answer for another question and it made me a little curious to find out..

  • Why are all these questions so repetitive? Does this happen in any of the other sections?

  • MUST YOU PEOPLE ASK THIS QUESTION EVERY 5 MINUTES?

  • I tend to see the same question almost everyday....give it a rest.

They brighten this place up ya know.

  • Out of the kindness of our hearts, we hope to free poor benighted Christians from their superstitions. Otherwise they jeopardize our freedom.

  • Who aid that religious and spiritual were synonymous?

  • This question was on the front page.

    Of all answers.

  • *Drink*
Atheists can be SPIRITUAL, you know.
And you don't have to follow a religion to discuss religion.

  • I didn't know atheists weren't allowed to have an opinion about religion, I'm sorry.

Oh I guess I missed the 'no atheists allowed' sign in front of this public forum.

If the religion section isn't the appropriate section to discuss my lack of belief in God then which section is?

Why are commoners in the Royalty section?
Why are stupid people in the Education section?
Why are humans in the Cat section?
Why are straight people in the LGBT section?
Why are overweight people in the Health section?
Why are bald people in the hair section?

    I need a drink.

  • Anyone can come here and discuus these topics...

    *drink*

  • There aren't any questions pagans or Taoists in the Cats section.

I am a pagan and a Taoist and an atheist. Don't forget that spirituality does not equal religion. And not all spiritual philosophies involve a deity. Think outside the box.

Aside from that, I actually am interested in the things Christians in particular say to try to convert people, because I have children and I fully expect Christian children to say these things to them when they find out my kids aren't Christian (it happened to me when I was younger, and oddly enough still happens).

So, I want to have thought about the Christian point of view and their arguments, so I can give a well-thought-out response to my children. I want to be able to clearly articulate what I think, because my ability to answer their questions may be important in my having credibility with my own children.

So I've been in forums like this for years now, and I'm really glad I did. Not only has it driven me further from Christianity than I ever thought I could be, but I think I can explain my views very well to my children, when they ask. I'm even keeping file of FAQ's.

  • Do you realize how many times we get this question on here in a day? Gosh, it was just asked not too long ago.....anyhow, sorry to be impatient. Many atheists used to be devout theists and have views on many religious ideas that are well learned and personalized. I think it only natural that regarding matters of faith, you would have believers and nonbelievers. I think it's quite normal and I'm not an atheist although I married to one and I understand where they are coming from. Namaste

  • So you are saying that republicans (not the political party) should not be allowed on the royalty board to put forward their position that a monarchy is a bad idea?

Atheism is a position on religion. Where should we discuss that if not the R&S board?

In my point of view, I do not understand why Christianity is dicussed here. I would say that it belongs on the Mythology & Folklore board.

  • I don't like the word "religion". What does that mean. I brush my teeth religiously...I bath religiously. That doesn't mean I brush my teeth and bath with a Bible (maybe a preacher : ). Religion or religous are words that have become very legalistic and do not really have any place in worship or whatever it is you do to honor and respect whatever you believe in.

  • Thanks so much I was thirsty.

Drink up to this drink question.

    Margarita please!

    *drink*

By the way, please go back 3 pages of questions and count how many questions are directed solely to atheists, including this one!

  • That's what the 'search for questions' bar at the top of YA is for.

    And I'm agnostic.

  • Little early yet to be drinking....Oh what the hell, that never stopped me before.

    *drink*

  • Because we are on a mission to destroy the concept of god.

  • If you are truly curious, you should take a lot of time and read the answers for this question the other 6,000 times it has been asked. Stick around, too, because it will probably come up another 6,000 before week's end.

It begs a larger question, why would any God-fearing Christian want to discourage atheists from visiting this section? Isn't that the opposite of what you'd want? Shouldn't you be "opening my eyes to the Truth"?

  • We have views on religion and spirituality, and wish to share them. They are not favorable views, but that doesn't make them invalid.

Alternate answer: At one time we didn't come here. Then some of you believers declared atheism to be a religion, so now we feel compelled to come here.

  • athesim is a relgion
is like we could say why are other bielfs in here religion is a belief atheist have a bielief that god doesn't exsist

  • I agree with you but I guess they have the right to be here as much as we do... Also someone above said how atheist can be spirtual... How is that???? "oh thank the World for no everlasting life.."??

  • Drink up.

The Cats forum people are happy to be rid of us.

For me personally, it's because I don't want to be held accountable for my actions, and apparently according to Christians, if I deny the existence of God, I can have as much sex as I want (though all of this drinking is kinda putting a crimp on that).

  • Why are fundamentalist christians in the Gay and Lesbian section if they aren't gay or lesbian???

  • "Because when we asked questions about God in Cats, they told us to leave."

    -Laptop Jesus, Potterific-

  • I love puppies.

We asked this in the Cats/NASCAR section, and they kicked us out.

    *Drink*

  • I can't speak for everyone; but I'm here because I have a vested interest in there being as few stupid and ignorant people on the planet as possible.
